Week 12 - Joining WW (Weight Watchers)

Updated: Feb 13

It has been a minute since my last update. Unfortunately, I was unable to salvage my last two posts from when I restarted my diet (Day 1...Again and Week 2).

As a recap, I originally wrote the post for Day 1 back in May of 2020...and then never really followed through. I really started focusing on this weight loss journey again this past November.

This post is picking off where I last left off, which is why there is such a gap between the dates in this post and the original one under this thread. While I haven’t been keeping up with my blog posts as I intended, staying focused on my health has still been my priority these past few months.

2020 has come and gone, and we have entered a new year. It’s easy to say “New Year, New Me,” but actions have always spoken louder than words. I’ve come to know myself pretty well over these last 25 years, and I am TERRIBLE at commitment. Especially, when the commitment I make is to myself.

So this year, I decided not to make any specific resolutions. While my goal is still to become a healthier version of myself, I don’t want to set unrealistic expectations. So instead, I’m choosing to be happy and avoiding all the guilt that I feel when I fall short of my own expectations. Whatever will be, will be.

With that being said, so far this year has been off to a good start. A group of friends and I have decided to sign up for Weight Watchers, or the new updated version known as WW. And the best part of it all, my fiancé Chris has also signed up with me. In our 4.5 years together, we have never dieted together, and it really does make all the difference. Especially since I work late nights and do not always have the time to make dinner. Chris is turning into a nice little housewife haha. But in all reality, eating healthy has been a lot easier to do when I am not the only one holding myself accountable.

With the holidays, I won’t lie to you...I got a little off track. I ended up gaining a few more pounds, and at my highest, I got up to 319.8 lbs. It’s so easy to just keep packing it on when you stop thinking about what you are eating and doing minimal exercise.

I signed up for WW on 1/16/2021, and I am currently following the Green plan. With the plan, I personally am still trying to avoid foods high in carbs and fats, because that is what tends to work best for me and my body.

Based on your height and weight, each person is assigned a certain amount of points per day, along with weekly points that you can dip into if needed. I personally enjoy the point system, because you are not necessarily limited or restricted on what foods you can eat. It really does promote a healthier relationship with food and helps you become more aware of what you are eating.

So far, since starting WW this year, I have lost 13.4 lbs, and I weighed in this morning at 306.6 lbs.

I am really trying to stay positive and remind myself that they call it a “journey” for a reason. The road to being healthy isn’t always a straight path. I get frustrated when I don’t see immediate results, and I have to work hard to be patient with myself and not give up. One bad meal doesn’t mean I’ve ruined the whole day.

Another aspect of WW that I really like is that they send you cute little weight loss charms when you reach a weight loss goal. I even ordered Chris and I a pair of keychains to keep track of the charms.

If you are struggling to lose weight, or if you want to become more aware of what you are putting into your body, I really recommend downloading the WW app and joining the program. They’re super affordable and the app is definitely user friendly! Tons of recipes are available for you. There’s even a feature where you can find recipes based on what is currently in your fridge.

I really do hope to update more frequently on my progress. I can also try to post some foods that have become a staple in my daily life now, maybe try to share a few recipes that Chris and I really enjoy.

But for now, I really just wanted to do a quick update since I have been slacking for the past few months.

As always, feel free to leave me any questions or comments. I’m open to any and all advice, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.
